A new blog platform means…

I finally migrated from WSS 3.0 as a blogging platform to WordPress. Obviously WordPress contains tons of awesome utilities and functions for SEO and general blogging tasks. The SharePoint platform was pretty descent to have the blog hosted on, but in reality it doesn’t beat WordPress when it comes to just the blogging.

This also means I’ve got a new RSS Feed Url (http://feeds.feedburner.com/tobiaszimmergren). I’m looking forward to posting some more awesome content during 2012.

Great new design. It’s looking great. I couldn’t agree more with you. SharePoint is a good blogging platform, but WordPress is a superb blogigng platform.

Great choice of blogging platform, it will serve you well. I see you get some questions regarding whether it is appropriate that you, as an SP expert, do not use SP for blogging, but to me, it tells me you know more about SharePoint and its strengts and weaknesses to avoid the weaknesses.

On a second note, it also tells me, considering you have access to SharePoint 15, that there are no impressive blogging improvements in the next version that would convince you to delay for a couple of months until you could use that version in public.

Hey Björn, thanks for the comment.
Being a senior SharePoint specialist means you’ll have to weigh in the facts that sometimes SharePoint isn’t the best suit for your needs. Better pitch SharePoint to customers that actually have use of the functionality in the product, than just “selling it” for the sake of selling.

In my case I use this site for general blogging functionality and when it comes to the available widgets for WordPress – there’s no better choice. The Microsoft Orchard project sounded a bit interesting at first, but I havne’t looked at it for ages now. It was basically a new light “CMS-kind-of-thing-suited-well-for-blogs” so WordPress is the ultimate choice, for my needs.

      Cheers,
      Tobias
